Support Agave Baroque's recording of this repertoire:
Agave Baroque is recording an exciting new album and needs your help making it a reality. Featuring the brilliant countertenor Reginald Mobley, the project is entitled "American Originals." It includes thrilling music by composers of color including Baroque masters from Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico as well as 19th- and 20th-Century musicians from the U.S. such as Justin Holland, Scott Joplin, and the incomparable Florence Price. Backed by Schwalbe and Partners management and recorded by Acis Productions, the album is poised to be great but requires considerable funding. Nevermind (French Baroque music) directed by Jean Rondeau
presented the Boston Early Music Festival
The Fall 2020 Virtual Season begins on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 8pm with the young French ensemble Nevermind. Hailed as a “breath of fresh air in the field of early music” (Wales Arts Review), these four friends met while studying in Paris and recognized their shared passions and vibrant musicianship. Following their highly successful BEMF début at the 2017 Festival, Nevermind returns this fall from the historic Rosario monastery in the heart of the Belgian countryside, with a delightful program of chamber music by Marias, Telemann, and J. S. Bach, including selections from The Art of Fugue.
BEMF’s YouTube channel (youtube.com/bostonearly/).
BEMF is committed to compensating the dozens of singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and directors who will bring these unique programs to life, both newly recorded and archival. While these four events will be offered free of charge, donations are encouraged and deeply appreciated.
Patrons can visit BEMF.org/support to learn more about making a tax-deductible contribution to BEMF.

Piffaro, The Renaissance Band : 20/21 digital season
20/21 Season: Concert 1
The blind musician Jacob Van Eyck rang the bells of the churches of Utrecht in the early 17th century, and played his little soprano recorder in the courtyards of those same churches. He held countless tunes in his head that he played and improvised on his recorder as he strolled the grounds of church and cathedral. Fortunately, for posterity, and countless recorder players, a scribe wrote down those tunes and the fantastic variations that he spun out.
Piffaro will honor "Eyckie" with a program drawn from his Fluyten Lusthof, both in his variations and in settings by other composers of the time. Philadelphia-based and internationally recognized carilloneur Janet Tebbel plays those tunes on the carillon, while Piffaro answers on recorders and lute. To honor the contribution of the local wind bands who also played outdoors in the public squares of Dutch towns and cities, Piffaro’s shawms, sackbuts and dulcians will resound in the courtyard of the Miraculous Medal Shrine in the historic Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, where we will film this program.

J.S. Bach Musical Offering: Transcending Time
Alexander Weimann, Harpsichord; Chloe Meyers, Violin; Natalie Mackie, Gamba; Soile Stratkauskas, Flute
Presented by Early Music Vancouver
J.S. Bach’s Musical Offering was initiated in 1747 when Frederick the Great of Prussia, himself a superb flutist, gave to Bach a complicated theme upon which the composer improvised to the astonishment of all present. Within the next few weeks Bach perfected and presented to Frederick a composition which exhibits Bach’s boundless imagination and profound depth of expression in a brilliant set of canons and fugues, and a trio sonata that is without parallel in 18th-century chamber music, all based on this royal theme. Jocelyn Morlock’s “Revenant” is based on reversing the theme from Bach’s Musical Offering.
