7:30 PM – SUMMER SING-ALONGS – Mendelssohn & Handel The series of four sing-along evenings begins with Peter Rutenberg of Los Angeles Chamber Singers & Cappella conducting selected choruses from Mendelssohn's "Elijah" and the Coronation Anthem No. 2 from G.F. Handel's "Zadok the Priest". Sing along with, or simply enjoy listening to, major choral works led by outstanding guest conductors. Musical scores and refreshments provided. First United Methodist Church at 1008 Eleventh Street (2 blocks north of Wilshire) in Santa Monica. Admission is $12 at the door only for a single evening. 7:30 PM – La Jolla Music Society SummerFest – Downtown Opening Night Concert Guest conductor Andrew Litton leads the San Diego Symphony in a performance featuring Bach's Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, Mozart's "Exsultate, jubilate" (KV.165) and "L'Amerò sarò costante" from Il Re Pastore (KV. 208) with soprano Heidi Grant Murphy, and works by Wagner, Gershwin, and Stravinsky. 10:15 AM – La Jolla Music Society SummerFest – Open Rehearsal: J.S. BachA guided tour of the rehearsal of J.S. Bach's Harpsichord Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052, with background information about the artists and composers and the opportunity to ask them questions. Part of a larger working rehearsal, so arrive early, as entry will not be permitted any later than the start time. Meet in the Axline Court for introduction before proceeding to the Sherwood Auditorium for the rehearsal. Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, 700 Prospect Street, downtown La Jolla.
